Summer 2006 News
The FLCA Mission club has been busy this summer. The biggest project
was the Mississippi mission trip. A number of club members joined
with Upper Ten Mile Presbyterian Church as they sent a group to the
Mississippi Gulf Coast to help in the rebuilding after last year's
hurricane Katrina. In all, there were 19 people in our group. The
group helped in several projects while there. One was to rebuild a
home that had been completely gutted as a result of the storm. Only
the outer shell was intact. We repainted the entire outside as well
as put in new windows. On the inside, the entire house was rewired,
and new insulation was put in. The drywall of "sheet rock" as it is
called in the south the next job, for a group after we left. We also
helped to clean the entire mold out of a house that was stripped
down to the outer shell and 2X4s where walls will be. Finally, we
cleaned out wet, moldy drywall and other debris from a house that is
owned by a member of the US Air Force and has not been home to tend to
his house. He spent last year in Iraq.
One other job we were able to accomplish was to deliver school supplies that FLCA had donated, including student desks, teacher’s desks, black boards, and other miscellaneous items, to a school that had been badly damaged. We packed a rented truck the day before leaving and unloaded it at the school is Mississippi the day we arrived.
FLCA Mission Club has been busy with a few jobs locally as well. We have partnered with "Faith in Action", a local organization that assists the elderly in various ways. We planted flowers for one lady and also have been regularly cutting the grass for another.
This past week the club
participated in the first of several summer car washes as fundraisers
for the club. We have a number of other projects planned as well as
some more upcoming fundraisers. In addition to the service projects,
the club meets twice a month to discuss what they see God doing in
there lives as well as plan more projects.
The desire of the FLCA mission club is to let Jesus' Light shine through us and to share the gospel where ever we go.
